THE SEVEN MINDSETS TAUGHT IN THE PROGRAM
RESILIENT MINDSET
If you build your identity around anything that can be gained or lost, you set yourself up for crisis. We develop resilience by learning to separate who you are from the results or your performance and your affiliation with a team or sport. In this module, your athletes will learn to strip away their insecure attachments to their mission and community by reframing their life through an identity-first filter.
RELAXED MINDSET
An insecure mind will be uptight and anxious, causing us to over-project and force our will onto the situation, or over-protect and withdraw and hide from the biggest moments. We perform our best when our mind is relaxed. In this module, your athletes will learn to be aware of their emotional state without overreacting to it and identify the core fear at the root of their insecurity.
VICTOR MINDSET
Our experiences shape us more than we realize. Owning our past experiences and leaning into new experiences is the pathway to growth. This module will empower your athletes to lean into their fears and seek out new growth opportunities. When they learn to embrace new challenges, they will have unlimited potential.
VISIONARY MINDSET
Who you are becoming is more important than what you achieve. Surfacing your true desire and having a vision for who you want to become creates an eternal well of motivation and a compass for your true path forward. In this module, your athletes will learn to shed the “shaming shoulds” and set "being" goals rather than achievement goals.
FOCUSED MINDSET
The world is a distracting place. There are so many voices and influences taking us out of the present moment and nudging us off our true path. In this module, your athletes will develop mantras to be their own best coach and learn a unique meditation exercise that can help them re-center at any moment.
PROCESS MINDSET
There is no shortcut to success. Excellence is built on the foundation of thousands of repetitions, hours of skillbuilding, and the discipline to stay ready when that moment comes. In this module, your athletes will learn to focus on the process over the end result and develop routines to help them get ready, stay ready, and be ready for their biggest moments.
EMPATHETIC MINDSET
No matter what sport you play, you need a healthy team to go as far as you’re capable of. A healthy ‘we’ is made up of a bunch of healthy 'mes'. In this module your athletes will learn how to use everything they've learned to this point to navigate conflict in a healthy way. It will create the vulnerability and trust that brings your team together.
RELAXED INTENSITY
The program concludes with this optimal performance state. It’s the culmination of all 7 mindsets working together. An intensity of focus, fully present, fully engaged in the here and now, with a relaxed, non-anxious presence, nothing to prove and nothing to hide. If your athletes wrestle with the exercises and commit to the process of growth, they will learn to consistently tap into a Relaxed Intensity mindset.
Frequently Asked Questions
Catching Confetti is organized into 7 essential mindsets. To get the most out of the program:
*You can complete the discussion and watch the next mindset video in one 30-minute meeting.
You can complete the program in 9 sessions: One session to introduce the program, one session for each of the 7 mindsets, and one session to close the program.
Plan for 30 minutes for each session: 15-20 minutes for discussion and then 10-15 minutes to watch the next video.
We suggest focusing on one mindset per week.
Yes, the program is designed as a structured curriculum that guides you step-by-step to an outcome and each mindset builds on the previous one. After completing the program, feel free to revisit any mindset as necessary.
The Catching Confetti toolkit was designed to empower you, the coach, with all the tools necessary to develop mindset skills in your athletes. We believe in the special role a coach plays in impacting your athletes because you are the one with them day-in and day-out and through all the highs and lows of the season. By leading the program yourself, you will be able to shape the discussions around your core values, apply the lessons to specific issues your team has been facing, and make a vulnerable connection with your team that will increase trust.
However, if you have a sport psychologist or character coach that works with your team and you would like to empower them with a larger voice in your locker room, using this program can improve their connection with your players and open doors for the rest of the work they do.
We recommend you start the program during the pre-season when you have more time to invest in the group sessions. Lay their mental skills foundation before the competition begins, then keep them sharp throughout the season with the daily Mindset Vitamins.
If you need to start the program during the season, it will still be effective. The exercises are designed to be resistance-based. The more stress they are under, the more real-time application they will experience. However, we have found it more difficult to stay disciplined in the program once you are in full-season mode.
Teams at all levels (high school, college, and pro) and in a variety of sports (from men’s basketball to women’s cross country) have experienced a profound transformation with Catching Confetti. It is not recommended for athletes younger than high school.
Yes, Catching Confetti is designed for high-performing athletes and coaches who are pushing themselves to their limits.* You voluntarily subject yourself to high-stress and high-pressure experiences because you know that's how you grow. That will test you mentally and emotionally.
For example, in the Relaxed Mindset, you will learn to become a detached observer of your feelings and emotions. You don't have to be dominated by them and you don't have to stuff them down. We teach you how to be aware and learn.

We believe in the special role a coach plays in impacting your athletes because you are the one with them day-in and day-out and through all the highs and lows of the season. Each Catching Confetti Team Toolkit license gives one team at one school access to the course materials. It is designed to develop a collective confidence, resilience, and trust among the team. It is not meant to be spread across multiple sports or schools.
